Each sculpture is a unique construction of handmade
paper, various woods, metals, and found objects.
-
Handmade paper: The paper is made in
my own studio from cottons, flaxes and more exotic fibers including
banana leaf fiber and hemp.
-
Wood: Woods are largely collected
from the acreage around the studio and tend to reflect their rural
Northwest heritage-- firs, cedars hawthorns, maples and a variety of
fruit woods. A few works contain bamboo, some grown at our former
home in Nevada.
-
Metal: Copper (often
hammered) is the most frequently used metal but iron, aluminum and
other types may be present.
-
Found objects: Found objects are
serendipitous and have included CD's, metal and ceramic fasteners
and whatever else has caught my eye and was aesthetically
appropriate.
